PP Homopolymer & Copolymer
Comparing PPHP and PPC grades for chemical tank applications
Polypropylene (PP) is the go-to chemical-resistant engineering plastic for chemical tanks, vessels, ducting, and lining applications. MK Industrial & Co.® supplies both PP Homopolymer (PPHP) and PP Copolymer (PPC) sheets, rods, and weld rods across Bangalore and Karnataka.
About PP Homopolymer & Copolymer
Polypropylene (PP) is the go-to chemical-resistant engineering plastic for tanks, vessels, ducting, and lining applications, serving the chemical processing, electroplating, pharmaceutical, food processing, and water treatment industries.
MK Industrial & Co.® supplies both PP Homopolymer (PPHP) and PP Copolymer (PPC) sheets, rods, and weld rods — available in standard dimensions and custom cut-to-size across Bangalore and Karnataka.
The two grades serve different needs: PPHP offers higher rigidity, better surface hardness, and superior temperature resistance (up to 110°C), suited to structural pickling tanks and electroplating baths. PPC introduces a random or block copolymer backbone that significantly improves low-temperature impact toughness and weldability — making it the preferred choice for large-format vessels, food containers, and applications requiring flexibility down to −10°C.
Key Properties — PPHP vs PPC
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| PPHP — Tensile Strength | 32–38 MPa |
| PPHP — Max Continuous Temperature | 110°C |
| PPC — Tensile Strength | 25–35 MPa |
| PPC — Max Continuous Temperature | 90°C |
| Density (both grades) | 0.90–0.91 g/cm³ — one of the lightest engineering plastics |
| Water Absorption (both grades) | Effectively zero — dimensionally stable in wet service |
| Chemical Resistance (both grades) | Excellent resistance to acids, alkalis, solvents and oils |
| Weldability | Hot-gas weldable with matching PP weld rods |
* PPHP offers higher stiffness and surface hardness; PPC offers better low-temperature impact resistance and weldability. Natural grades of both are FDA and food-contact compliant. Values are general properties per manufacturer specification.
